How many more people need to die before we fix the real problem of why these senseless shootings take place? Some politicians are now calling for tighter gun laws but that's a fix after the fact, and it doesn't get at the root of the problem which continues to grow.
Loughner, the latest shooter in Tucson, AZ, is an undiagnosed and untreated sufferer of a mental illness, not unlike most of the shooters before him. Before you spout out the words, "Psycho" or "Schizo", or just plain crazy, followed by "through him in jail," you best step back a moment and re-evaluate. The fact is, sooner or later, you or someone you know will be diagnosed with a chemical imbalance, the latest buzz words for mental illness.

One in five Americans suffers from a chemical imbalance, although some studies say one in six; either way, it's still a high percentage of our society that suffers from some form of mental illness. At the low end is depression and at the extreme end is schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, with different levels of psychosis thrown in the mix.
