From where it all started on historic Olvera Street to the iconic buildings recognized worldwide, or a stroll through the immense garment and diamond districts to a night-cap and spectacular view from a rooftop bar at the Standard Hotel, downtown Los Angeles is truly the heart of the City of Angels.
You’ve gotta admit…when people visit Los Angeles they think about movie stars, Rodeo Drive and Santa Monica Beach but once they get that out of their system, there’s a whole new world in downtown L.A. and it’s fun, unique, interesting and extraordinary.
Start Where "it" All Started and Make a Big Loop
A great place to begin a downtown Los Angeles adventure is at the north end at Union Station where you can arrive either by train or bus at one of the great, old terminals in America. Some of the thick, old leather-covered Art-Deco chairs are still in use and the entire old, north terminal has been preserved for posterity and aspiring film makers. View the decorative tiles and woodwork and the tiny, thirty or so, small ticket windows. Picture Charlie Chaplin walking to one of the terminals and saying…"Get me a fast train to New York.”
